MP3 and Review: Pull Start 33s, “Back Home”

A fitting title to the debut album for rock and roll brawlers Dennis Assenmacher and Kyle Tucker’s new project, the Pull Start 33s.

“Back Home”, Pull Start 33s debut album, was released on Rinse Records and was recorded in Sylvania, Ohio, by Nick Leyland of Stryder Lee. Assenmacher is back in Ohio after a brief stint in Dallas, TX, where he led up musical acts The Jesus Project and The Lee Hutson Duo.

Black Angels, Newport 10.19.12

Black Angels are better live than on the album. Weird to say, because the album is for loners to listen to alone..in the woods at night is best. So that they maintained that vibe live speaks to the band’s atmospheric control–they’re as eerie and disorienting as a solo acid trip in Ohio’s haunted backwoods.

Paper-Airplane

MP3 & Review: Paper Airplane, “Who You Know”

It’s not often that a record is filled with songs that have a payoff in each one of them. The musical moment that makes a song, a song, at first listen. The unpredictable Columbus indie pop band, Paper Airplane, are becoming craftsmen of these types of songs. Releasing their third LP, Who You Know, on We Want Action Records. Drawing obvious influences from John Lennon, being a staple band at The John Lennon Festival in Athens for the last 6 years,  to the more modern Fruit Bats and New Pornographers.  The band puts out songs fit for a soundtrack.

Josh Krajcik, The X-Factor

“All of my passions are out on the table” -Easily lost easily one

Josh Krajcik’s performance of, “At Last” by Etta James, breached 1 million views in the week following his stellar performance on Simon Cowell’s new talent show, The X Factor, on Fox. This is an amazing feat seeing as how he was a relatively unknown up until this week. It seems obvious when you see the clip that Josh has an abundance of talent and his voice is something special – which makes it all the more puzzling to understand why it took him until age 30 for a major audience to give him his first real chance.
